The husband and spouse had been every slapped with summonses for disorderly conduct.

The husband and spouse every received a summons for disorderly conduct and for violating an emergency measure established by the mayor, an NYPD spokesperson confirmed to Business Insider.

In line with Gothamist, the boat's captain requested that the couple both put on face masks or go away the ferry, but the husband and spouse claimed they had a medical situation that allowed them to journey with out masks. Face coverings are currently required on all NYC Ferry vessels, apart from in circumstances when a medical situation prevents passengers from carrying them, a spokesperson for NYC Ferry advised Business Insider.

Gothamist reporter Jake Offenhartz witnessed the incident and chronicled the occasion in multiple videos posted to Twitter.

The couple was initially allowed to board, however later became verbally abusive toward passengers and crew members, which led the crew to name the police, an NYC Ferry spokesperson advised Business Insider.

The husband and wife stood on the ferry's top deck defying orders for roughly 45 minutes before police arrived. One police officer requested for evidence of the couples' medical condition, which they refused to provide, Gothamist reviews.

"Because we can't put on a mask, we're being discriminated towards," stated the man, who recognized himself to Gothamist as David, based on the outlet.

"If we had been f---ing Black, I can guarantee you that man would by no means come out and tell us put a mask on," the girl stated, per Gothamist.

According to the report, NYPD officers supplied the couple the opportunity to disembark voluntarily before strolling them off in handcuffs.

The girl advised Gothamist they have been in the technique of suing the Metropolitan Transportation Authority — which operates New York's transit system — after an analogous incident on a bus, and that they may sue the ferry service as effectively.
